Proposals of Applied Technology

Molecular self-assembly can be used to enable the separation of nano-sized materials using self-assembled honeycomb films. For example, nano-filters could separate blood components (white and red blood cells) based on their different sizes, or separate proteins from DNA. Honeycomb film made from self-assembling molecules can be used in regenerative medicine to grow liver cells for use in man-made livers and liver transplants, without harming the body.
